Karis Mills

Instruments:

Viola, Cello

Genres:

Baroque, Renaissance, Classical

Biography:

Karis Mills began her musical journey on the violin at the age of 7 and eventually switched to viola as her preferred instrument. Since then, she has played in professional orchestras (including Whidbey's own Saratoga Chamber Orchestra), bands, professional string ensembles (large and small), churches, recitals, early music consorts, and small combos. As well as ensemble playing, she has done soloing both as a feature player and as a viola section principal (of Skagit Symphony). She has studied with Dolly Koritzer and Sharon Peterson as well as briefly with Randall Kelly (principal violist of Pittsburgh Symphony) and Paul Hersh (Piano Chair at San Francisco Conservatory). Her current passions are in Early Music, especially the Renaissance and early Baroque periods, and Scandinavian Fiddling (although not yet very accomplished in this genre).
