Biography:
Josh Stout is a freelance trombonist and music educator on Whidbey Island, WA. He has performed professionally in orchestras throughout the greater Seattle area as well as Salt Lake and Utah counties. Josh is a member of the Saratoga Orchestra of Whidbey Island and former member of the Salt Lake Choral Artists Orchestra. Other orchestras he has performed with include Philharmonia Northwest, Utah Metropolitan Ballet Orchestra and Millennial Choirs and Orchestras.In the education field, Josh teaches students on trombone, euphonium, tuba, and trumpet. He has taught lessons in-person and virtually throughout Washington, Texas, and Utah and has maintained a private teaching studio since 2019. Josh's students have been winners of All-state auditions, received superior ratings in Solo & Ensemble competitions, and have placed in top concert and jazz ensembles in their schools.
Josh received his Bachelor's Degree in Trombone Performance from Brigham Young University in 2020 where he studied with Dr. Will Kimball. During his undergraduate program, Josh was Principal Trombone of the BYU Philharmonic, Wind Symphony, Trombone Choir and the Honors Brass Quintet.
He is a two time winner of the BYU Concerto competition and was a Semifinalist in the STS Orchestral Excerpts Competition in 2020. In 2022, Josh was a recipient of a scholarship to the Rafael Mendez Brass Institute in Denver, CO where he was mentored by world-class trombonists such as John Lofton, Scott Hartman, Brad Edwards, and Richard Harris. He hasshared the stage with artists such as Itzhak Perlman, Patrice Tipoki, members of Canadian Brass, and trumpet soloist Mary Bowden. Josh will be pursuing a Masters degree in Trombone Performance at the University of Texas at Austin in Fall 2023 where he will be a student of Dr. Nathaniel Brickens. His other main trombone teachers have included Koichiro Yamamoto, Will Kimball, Graeme Mutchler, Jeremy Marks and Darren Workman.
