Biography:
Based in Anacortes, Christopher Dyel leads a vibrant music career as an educator, arranger, consultant, and performer. As an educator, he has eleven years experience as a band director and has been teaching private instrumental lessons for over twenty years. His students have exceptional rates of acceptance into the Florida and Washington All-State Ensembles with his band program admitting the most students of any in the state of Washington in 2024 with 33 acceptances. In six years, his students earned first place at Regional Solo and Ensemble twenty one times, and took a gold medal at State S&E in 2024. As a result of the distinguished band program he built, he was selected in 2023 to receive the Walter A. Brodniak Cultural Education Award for Outstanding Contributions to the Arts in Anacortes.As an arranger, he has created and performed several classical works for winds by R. Strauss, Mahler, Dvorak, Mozart; and also pieces for orchestra from the video games Final Fantasy, The Legend of Zelda, and Chrono Trigger.
As a woodwind performer and conductor, he is accomplished in classical, jazz, musical theater, and popular music. He was twice selected as the Outstanding Graduate Student in Music at Austin Peay State University (2016 & 2017), and also won their Symphony's Concerto Competition in 2017 on soprano saxophone.
Mr. Dyel holds a Bachelor of Science in Music Education from the University of South Florida (2010) and a Master of Music in Instrumental Conducting from Austin Peay State University (2017).
Outside of music his passions include hiking, world travel, The Lord of the Rings, video games, and most importantly, spending quality time with loved ones.
